Roof plumbing

Gutters, fascia & roof plumbing

In NSW, gutters, downpipes, flashings and metal roof coverings fall within roof plumbing, a licensed trade in its own right. Re-roofing is the natural moment to replace undersized or rusted gutters and to check that the drainage layout actually copes with a Sydney downpour.

Scope

What this covers

  • Quad, half-round or box gutter replacement in steel

  • Downpipe relocation and extra outlets where overflow history shows the need

  • Fascia replacement or capping behind the new gutter line

  • Valley and box gutter renewal laid to correct falls

  • Compliant overflow measures on box gutter designs

Timing

When it's needed

Gutters that spill at the same corner every storm, fascia going soft behind them, and box gutters lacking compliant overflow are common finds on older Sydney roofs. Fixing drainage during the re-roof avoids paying to scaffold the house twice.

Stay off the roof. Aged tiles crack underfoot, brittle sheeting can fail without warning, and unprotected edges cause serious falls. Photograph from the ground or a window and leave the climbing to crews with edge protection and the right equipment.

Quote variables

What shapes the scope

Roofing in NSW is licensed work: roof tiling and roof plumbing are distinct specialist categories, and residential building contracts above the statutory threshold require a contractor licence, with home building compensation cover applying to larger jobs. Check any contractor's licence against the NSW Fair Trading public register before signing anything.
